A prominent monarch in Ondo state, Oba Adegoke Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon, has been murdered by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
Ifon is located in Ose Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo state in south-west Nigeria.
The incident happened on Thursday, November 26. Oba Adeusi was reportedly returning to his town from Akure, the Ondo State capital where he went for a meeting with other frontline traditional rulers in the state, when he ran into a barricade set up by the kidnappers along Elegbeka area.

It was also gathered that his driver tried to manoeuvre his way to escape the kidnappers but they shot at his vehicle.
The monarch was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where he died as a result of gunshot wounds.
In a report by Tribune Online, the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, upon hearing of the incident, rushed to the hospital.

The sad incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tee Leo-Ikoro, who described the incident as sad and very unfortunate.
Ikoro also added that the bandits also kidnapped two persons in the convoy after shooting the monarch.
He then noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bolaji Salami, has directed all police divisions in the area to swing into action.
He stated that the police personnel would work with other security agencies to apprehend the bandits and secure the release of the abducted persons.
