Protesters demanding the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS unit of the Nigeria Police besieged the entrance of the Lagos House of Assembly, Ikeja on Thursday night.
The protesters kept vigil at the gates of the House of Assembly to air their grievances against extortion and brutality by operatives of SARS and despite numerous efforts to disperse them, spent the night there.

It was gathered the protesters camped in tents at the entrance of the Assembly, but security operatives later dismantled the tents. Later, around 11.30pm, the streetlights at the premises were turned off, all in a bid to scare the protesters into thinking that they were about to be attacked.

Popular comedian, Mr Macaroni, whose real name is Debo Adebayo, also joined the protest and condemned the actions of FSARS operatives.

While addressing the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, Mr Macaroni appealed for the intervention of government, stressing the fact that many Nigerians are living in fear of security operatives who should be protecting lives.
In his words, “We are here not because we don’t have a home. It is because we are scared that even when at home, bullets can find their ways into our heads. So, we want the government to step in and step in now.”

After listening to the demands of the protesters, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa appealed to them to return home and assured them that there would be an emergency meeting Friday morning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other concerned authorities.

However, the protesters still kept vigil at the gates of the assembly, to resume the protest on Friday morning.
