Funke Akindele: ‘Omo Ghetto’ ranks most watched on Netflix Naija

Award-winning movie ‘Omo Ghetto the Saga’ has become the most watched Nollywood movie on Netflix Naija.

Produced by Funke Akindele-Bello, the star studded comedy film became a success after its debut release in December 2010.

The sequel produced in December 2020 broke a five-year record as Nollywood’s highest-grossing movie of all time, surpassing the N500 million box office record.

‘Omo Ghetto the Saga’, according to Flix Patrol, holds the top spot on Netflix’s top 10 Nollywood movies. Backed by a report from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the movie has maintained the number one spot for six weeks in a row.

Attesting to the success of the movie, it won Africa’s highest-grossing film of 2020/21 award at the META Cinema Conference in the United Arab Emirates in 2021.

The movie portrayed the lives of twin sisters leading separate lives, but eventually reunited by series of dramatic events.

Both twin characters were played by Funke Akindele-Bello. One of them, Lefty lived a chaotic life, struggling between living a life of wealth and comfort provided by her adopted mother and returning to her ghetto lifestyle.

The cast featured leading household names and veterans such as Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami, Chioma Akpotha, Bimbo Thomas, Eniola Badmus, Nancy Isime, Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo, to mention a few.
