The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has debarred the Clerk of the House, Owudugo Kozigene, for a period of three months over claims of gross misconduct.
The Deputy Clerk, Kent Adogu, was assigned to act as the new Clerk pending when Kozigene returns from his suspension.
Timi Agala-Omubo, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency 2, called for the motion to suspend Kozigene, while stating “infractions of certain privileges and rights of members” as his reasons.
Agala-Omubo said, “The clerk was fingered to have acted wrongly when out of insubordination, he refused to collaborate with the leadership or financial team of the House in a matter relating to the budget of the House for 2021.”
After Godbless Oyinke (Sagbama 1), another lawmaker seconded the motion, the remaining lawmakers voted for his suspension unanimously by the show of hands.
After voting, the Speaker, Abraham Ingobere, eventually constituted a three-member committee headed by Bernard Kenebai, to investigate the claims against the suspended clerk, and report back within two weeks.
