The 7th edition of the Access Bank-Lagos City Marathon race kicked off today Saturday, 12 February 2022, and the results are out.
We have witnessed Ethiopians winning the top prices for both the men and women categories at the Lagos City Marathon for this year.
The 42km race was flagged off by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and in its usual pattern, the race starts at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere and ends at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.

Geleta Ulfata won the male category in a time of 2.11.58, while Dagne Siranesh Yirga in a time of 2hours 33minute won the female category.
Ulfata defeated over 300 marathoners to win the 7 th edition of the race and will walk away with the grand prize of $30,000. In second and third positions are the Kenyans, David Barmasai in 2.13.27 and Naibe Emmanuel in 2.14.42.
In the female category, Alemeneshi Hereha Guta from Ehtiopia came second, while Kenya’s Naomi Maiyo finished third.
While more results unfold, this year’s edition has been safe despite the suspension of last edition due to the pandemic.
The Lagos City Marathon attracts both local and international athletes, and there are runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Uganda, USA, and Australia, to mention a few.
