The United Nations’ Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, condemned the shooting of peaceful protesters at lekki toll-gate.
He also called for the Nigerian government to put an end to police brutality in the nation.
His position on this matter was made public via his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric.
From the statement, we gathered that the secretary-general has been following the recent developments in the country and he asked for an end to police brutality and abuse.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the shooting and he wished them quick recovery.
Mr Guterres also called on the appropriate bodies to investigate the incident and he urged them to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
Also on this call, he went on to ask security operatives to handle peaceful protesters without violence and he urged them to apply caution in such cases.
