Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, October 2nd, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd independence celebration.

This announcement was disclosed to the public on Thursday by Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the government.

In a statement relayed by Akinlade, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended heartfelt congratulations to all Nigerians, both within the country and in the Diaspora, on this significant occasion. Additionally, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the FG’s unwavering commitment to addressing the various challenges confronting the nation.

The Minister emphasized that Nigeria is not alone in facing global socioeconomic and security challenges, and the government is diligently working to overcome these obstacles, leveraging all available resources until relief comes to the nation. Tunji-Ojo stressed the importance of unity and collaborative efforts among Nigerians, highlighting the nation’s prominent position in the global community and the promising future that lies ahead.

The Minister of Interior also underscored that Nigeria will continue to stand as Africa’s pride and a symbol of hope, aligning with the Renewed Hope vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has disclosed its intention to observe Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary on October 1st in a subdued manner. This decision was communicated by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), during a press conference held in Abuja. It was further clarified that the government will not extend invitations to any foreign leaders for the event, in line with its preference for a low-key celebration.
