Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the notorious Boko Haram sect, has revealed the group is responsible for the beheading of farmers in Borno state.
In addition, Shekau also revealed that contrary to the numbers being publicized, the sect killed 78 farmers in total.
The farmers were reportedly beheaded after members of Boko Haram attacked them at Zabarmari community in Jere local government area of the state, where they were farming.

The governor of the state, Professor Babagana Zulum, had said 43 farmers were killed. However, in a video released on Tuesday, Shekau said at least 78 farmers were killed.
According to him, the beheading of the farmers was in retaliation for handing over a member of the sect to the Nigerian army.
Shekau then added that all those giving out intelligence on Boko Haram activities to the military will face the same fate the farmers faced.

The beheading of the farmers, who have since been buried, has been widely condemned both within the nation and beyond, and the United Nations has described it as the “most violent attack” affecting civilians in 2020.
It will be recalled that earlier on Tuesday, the senate had charged the President to sack the service chiefs who had “overstayed” their usefulness, and the house of representatives also said they would summon the president over the killing.
