The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, be remanded in prison, till the end of his trial.
This order was made by Justice Okon Abang, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prosecution counsel, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.

It will be recalled that Maina, who is facing money laundering charges to the tune of N2bn had jumped bail and fled to the Niger Republic, thereby causing the arrest and remand of his surety, Senator Ali Ndume.
The senator was later granted bail on account of “good behaviour”, and Maina’s trial continued in absentia.
He was however produced in court for the first time on Friday morning, after he was apprehended in Niger Republic and extradited to Nigeria on Thursday.

Justice Abang ruled on the EFCC’s application for a remand order, and said, “The defendant is already on bench warrant having jumped bail.
“So he shall be remanded in correctional centre pending the conclusion of the trial.”

Adaji Abel, the lawyer who newly took over Maina’s defence after his former lawyer abandoned the case, appealed to the judge to adjourn the case to enable him to prepare adequately for the case.
Justice Abang granted the request and adjourned the case till December 8.
