French striker, Olivier Giroud’s second half strike was enough for AC Milan to beat Napoli in a Serie A six pointer on Sunday night.

Milan and Napoli went into the match as joint second on the table, one point behind leaders, Inter Milan.

Milan looked fired up from the blast of the whistle as they continued their hunt for a league trophy since 2011.

They controlled the tempo of the game and created some scoring opportunities.

However, they had nothing to show for their efforts as Napoli goalkeeper, David Ospina, made couple of brilliant saves to keep the game 0-0 going into the break.

Napoli, who are also looking for their first Serie A trophy in over 30 years, had an uneventful first half as the centre-defensive duo of Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu neutralised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

The second half kicked off with Napoli showing more intent and purpose as they attack the Milan goal.

However, it was the Rossoneri that drew the first blood on 49th minute when Olivier Giroud latched onto a Davide Calabria low drive into the box to direct home from close range.

Napoli reshuffled their pack by throwing in Adam Ounas and Elif Elmas as they tried to find their way back into contest but the Milan defence remained defiant.

Osimhen came close to scoring later on with a near post shot that was parried away by Mike Maignan as Milan stood firm.

Zlatan Ibrahimović came on in the 90th minute to mark his first league appearance in six games and his contribution was enough to see Milan through.

The win takes Milan to the top of the Serie A table with 60 points, leaving Inter and Napoli in their trail with 58 and 57 points respectively but the former has a game in hand.
