The sum of N20 million naira was requested as bail fee for the release of Omoyele Sowore, aSahara Reporter publisher.
The sum of N1million was also requested as bail fee for the four other activists who were arrested alongside Sowore in Abuja.
Sowore and Juwon Sanyaolu, Peter Williams, Emmanuel Bulus, and Damilare Adenola are standing trial for alleged unlawful assembly, criminal conspiracy, and inciting public disturbance through their New year’s eve protest in Abuja.
Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello, the judge sitting over the bail application ruled in favor of Sowore’s bail while ordering for the sum of N20million and two sureties in same amount to be paid.
According to court directives, Sowore is mandated to stay in Abuja while reporting in person to the court registrar every Monday and Friday pending the hearing and determination of the case against him.
The court further ordered that one of his sureties must be a civil servant not below grade level 12.
