Following the continued harassment of citizens by SARS operatives despite the announcement of the dissolution of the unit by the IGP, #EndSARS protesters have stormed the Lekki Toll Gate section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, to resume demonstrations on Monday morning.
This has resulted in a gridlock which started as early as 5am and has left commuters and motorists on their way to work in a total standstill.

It will be recalled that after days of protests demanding an end to SARS due to their brutality and extrajudicial killings, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday afternoon, announced the dissolution of the police unit.
The IGP declared a new policing arrangement to replace the SARS would be announced “in due course”, and he added that all officers of the disbanded SARS would be redeployed with to other commands and units of the force.

However, the protesters on Monday are clamouring for the psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers by the police authorities before they are redeployed.
In addition, they demand the release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families, as well as prosecution of officers with a record of misconduct.

The protesters also want increased salaries for police officers as well as the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct within 10 days.
